York City have managed to return to the English Football League after 10 years apart

Meanwhile, York Knights have secured promoted to the Rugby Super League.

The 2025/25 campaign is definitely one for York to remember as the men’s teams had massive successes in their respective sports.

York City getting promotion means everything when you look at how it will impact the city and local residents.

City getting promotion means York will be able to showcase their return and what they intend to do to stay at the top.

York Central MP Rachael Maskell said: “When you see the whole city coming together, it really just lifts all of our spirits.“

With them getting to the fourth tier of English Football they’ll be facing teams who have massive fanbases and they will get to see what York has to offer them to make it a great match away day.

The York fans will also be able to enjoy better and more exciting away days as they showcase their support for the Minstermen.

In comparison the bigger and more experienced teams will be a good test for York both on and off the field, as they will face higher levels of competition and professionalism.

Similar to how York Knights gained promotion to the Super League, the Minstermen will be facing bigger and more experienced teams and promotion helps with player recruitment.

The live coverage of matches will help promote the city itself as their fans and the media will discuss their return.

The reputation they have gained for promotion will help to attract more businesses and tourism which the city already has but with more coming locally the city will be able to enhance itself and the attractions it has to offer.

Promotion also brings along more sponsorships for the club for which they are able to upgrade and advance the squad, stadium and the atmosphere.

York City manager Stuart Maynard said: “The investment has been invested in the right areas and that’s why you’re seeing the club thrive on and off of the pitch.”

The current investments have already paid off and with more means more success and for the city it gives them a chance to show why this place is special and why is deserves all the success.

How have the Women’s team done this season?

Although the women’s team has not gained significant coverage recently, their success in recent years should not be underestimated.

Unlike their male counterparts the Valkyries were already in the Betfred women’s Super League and you could argue that they’ve been more successful than the men in recent years.

In 2023 they won the Super League after a truly memorable season which saw them crowned back to back Women’s Super League champions.

York Knights have been promoted for the first time in their history in comparison to the Valkyries who were already dominating at top tier of Rugby proving they are arguably better than the men’s team.

York City Belles have managed to secure women’s National League Football for a fifth consecutive season as they managed to go four points clear of relegation.

Needing one point to stay up they welcomed Blackburn Rovers and whilst both teams put up a good fight The Minster Belles managed to secure their survival after a draw giving them the one point they needed.
