Britain’s Durde’s defence locks down Patriots as Seahawks soar to Super Bowl victory

Aden Durde with his player

Aden Durde has become the first Super Bowl-winning British coach in NFL history with a 29-13 victory for the Seattle Seahawks

Born in North London he began his career as a line-backer playing for the London Olympians and Hayes Braves in England.

A second stint with the Hamburg Sea Devils brought a 2007 NFL Europa World Bowl XV championship accolade.

He started his coaching career with the London Warriors and won four Britbowl appearances and two national championship titles.

He would go on to join the Dallas Cowboys on a coaching internship which kickstarted his career in the NFL.

In 2018 Durde joined the Atlanta Falcons as a defensive quality control and linebacker coach.

He would return to the Cowboys 2021 as defensive line coach and in 2024 he would get swooped up by the Seahawks where he made his presence known against the New England Patriots.

His team captured their second Super Bowl with a 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in a dominant display built on defensive quality and relentless pressure.

Seattle dominated the game by taking an early lead and shutting out the Patriots for three quarters setting the tone for the physical quality the Seahawks were bringing.

Jason Myers’ five field goals steadily extended Seattle’s advantage as quarterback Sam Darnold connected with A.J. Barner on a decisive 16-yeard touchdown extending the lead to 19-0.

The New England Patriots were shutout for three quarters thanks to a tightly packed Seahawks defence nicknamed the “Darkside.”

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said: “We went to the dark side tonight. We love our players – they made it happen. They made it come to life.”

Seahawks defensive co-ordinator Aden Durde locked up his defence by relentlessly pressuring Patriots rookie Drake Maye, recording six sacks and forcing multiple turnovers.

The line-backer sealed the deal with a 44-yard defensive fumble for a touchdown.

The Patriots managed to break the Darkside defence in the form of quarterback Drake Maye connecting with Mack Hollins for a 35-yard touchdown.

Kenneth Walker III spearheaded Seattle’s offence by rushing 135 yards at 5.0 yards per carry, a performance which helped him earn the MVP award.
