York’s nightlife doesn’t stop after the club – the holy trinity of kebab vans dotted around the centre keep the city vibrant.
If you’re familiar with York’s city centre, kebab vans are a crucial part to its nightly food scene.
Students have debated which kebab van is the best, so naturally, I decided to try them and see for myself.
3 – Deniz Best Kebab

With a rating of 4.1 on TripAdvisor, it seemed promising and was quite delicious. Its location on High Street near Halifax made it very convenient.
Deniz’s portions are generous in my opinion, making it worth it.
Although I found the food quality to be lacking – with blander flavours, I ordered a classic kebab with chilli sauce but in my opinion, lacking a kick
2- Oki’s

This kebab van has some very passionate workers who enjoy the simplicity of their craft
I found their portions to be quite large and filling – they have a large selection of food to choose from.
The options made the van more appealing, although due to it’s location, on the edge of the road near black sheep coffee can feel claustrophobic on a busy night,
I ordered the same classic kebab with chilli and garlic sauce, while the spice had a kick, it was quite heavy to eat.
However, the food is great, but it didn’t take my top spot.
1 – Midnight Fryer

This Kebab van has brilliant food and incredible banter—the owner, Eddie, performs a one-man show.
This van is located near the Stonebow pub
Unlike the previous vans, the owner works alone, this doesn’t slow him down as he manages a busy night with ease with a rapid wait time.
I ordered a kebab with chilli and garlic sauce
The food has to be the most flavourful for me – as a spice lover, I found the chilli sauce to have a good kick.
Although the menu range is smaller than the other vans, the food quality makes this van worth the visit
