Gilbert and Sullivan opera debuts at York Theatre Royal as York St John students rise to the challenge of filming

By Grace Lansbury

Students at York St John University have filmed a light opera by Gilbert and Sullivan at the York Theatre Royal.  Andy Platts, a media production lecturer at the university, was asked if students would be able to help with the filming of the production of Patience by York Opera.

Andy accepted and preparations began. Two weeks later they were ready to start. Students attended dress rehearsals so were aware of the order of the show. Despite a few technical difficulties  -particularly on the first night -it was smooth sailing.  Andy told The Yorkie how the students ensured that it was alright on the night.
