York City Council has confirmed that flooded Rowntree park will reopen on Monday 11th of March, but it seems some visitors are growing impatient.

Rowntree Park has seen some of its worst flooding in years with the park being closed most of November up to the present date.

Because the park is situated next to the River Ouse it is prone to flooding but one Facebook commenter said it was the worst she’d seen the park in years.

The flooding in the park has finally gone as the river has returned to safe levels, and thanks to the pump system installed in the park.

This however doesn’t mean the park has reopened.

The charity organisation Friends of Rowntree Park has organised a huge post-flood clean-up, involving local volunteers, that should hopefully return the park to its former glory before it is reopened.

But it seems some people are growing impatient waiting for the reopening of the park and there have been claims on social media that people have been seen breaking in.

One lady on Facebook asked: “Is the park open cos there’s quite a few people in there atm”

Friends of Rowntree Park Facebook page claims that a dad and toddler were spotted breaking into the park among others, they have warned against from doing this as it is deemed unsafe.

York city council are looking into the break-ins.
