The history of York’s Barley Hall

York boasts many historic buildings, but the beauties of one of them remained hidden behind a derelict office block until the 1980s.

Barley Hall is one of the city’s Tudor gems, with parts of the building dating back to the 1300s. It’s currently playing host to an exhibition of costumes from the popular television programme, Wolf Hall, which will finish at the end of this month.

To mark the start of History Week, Brett Blacker has been finding out more about this important part of York’s history.
