Blue Carpet Royalty: The 2025 Met Gala’s Best Dressed

Although New York may have been damp and dreary, the weather didn’t prevent any celebrities from living up to the Met Gala standard of going above and beyond with every outfit.

This year the theme to celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute show was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” and the accompanying dress code was “Tailored for You.”

The Met Gala’s host Anna Wintour, who is also the chief content creator of Condé Nast and the editor in chief of Vogue magazine, were joined by the co-chairs of the evening, A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo and Pharrell Williams.

But the theme of the night had differing adaptations from all the attendees, here are some of our favourites.

1. Gigi Hadid.

Hadid’s Met Gala looks every year never disappoint, and this year was no different.

This year she worked with not only Miuccia Prada and the Miu Miu team, but also her close friend Gabriella Karena-Johnson, a black stylist known not only for her exacting eye but her willingness to speak out against racism and injustice in her industry.

While talking to Emma Chamberlain, Hadid explained that ‘It’s an homage to Zelda Wynn Valdes, who was a fashion designer.’

‘She took her technique and skill in men’s tailoring and applied that to the female form. I hope that she would love this.’

Hadid’s dress is an almost exact interpretation of a gown worn by Josephine Baker – the first black actress to star in a major film, also dipping into the theme through that.

2. Kendall Jenner

Following on, the Kar-Jenner’s are known for not sticking to the Met Gala themes.

However, this year Kendall Jenner has worked with the upcoming British designer Torishéju Dumi to design a two-piece skirt, and it does not disappoint.

When considering Black dandyism, the designer looked beyond the Harlem Renaissance, gathering inspiration from her Nigerian heritage as well.

‘The British empire really, really had an effect on the Nigerian style and what they wore and how they dress. They started to trade clothing for spices etc, and would pair that with their own traditional attire. Its still present in the day-to-day attire in Nigeria.’

Dumi referenced towards her grandfathers Nigerian Lapa shirts, which are heavily influenced by British tailoring.

Even the way the skirt suit was constructed speaks to an element of dandyish as the look was created using nearly 100ft of deadstock fabric over 242 hours.

Subsequently, Hammam attended the Met in a Bianca Jagger-esque white tailored suit by Polish designer Madga Butrym.

Her look also included a black cane with a silver handle and silver pointed-toe heels, topping off the outfit with a black headpiece made of flowers and long feathers.

4. A$AP Rocky

As a co-chair of the Met Gala this year, A$AP Rocky definitely did not disappoint with his outfit.

Rocky opted to design his whole outfit for the Met Gala himself.

Taking a cool, sportswear—minded route that reflected his own personal style.

Wearing a double-breasted AWGE parka in technical wool, with coated snaps and Velcro detailing on the sleeves.

His jacket was inspired by the Marmot outerwear Rocky saw being worn in Harlem when he was growing up.

The jackets, to him, represented modern-day dandyism, and he wanted to pay homage to that.

Rocky told Vogue magazine during his final fitting in New York that ‘Marmots are a Harlem tradition—in the winter, everyone has a Marmot on.’

5. Diana Ross

And finally, after a 22-year absence, Diana Ross made a triumphant return to the Met Gala in 2025.

Of course the legendary singer captivated the red carpet with a glamorous yet deeply personal ensemble.

With her look featuring a sweeping white gown adorned with crystals and beads, and an 18-foot train embroidered with the 13 names of her children and grandchildren.
