A HGV (heavy goods vehicle) crashed into the side of a refurbished medieval Mill near Malton in Coulton Lane, on the outskirts of Coulton.
At 6:25am this morning (November 5th) the North Yorkshire fire and rescue service were called to the scene where “a HGV had crashed on a sharp bend and gone into a residential property,” reported service spokesperson.
“I feel crushed”
The owner of the Mill, Nicholas (Nick) Burrows, has shared with The Yorkie how the incident has affected him:
“I am still quite shaken from this morning, a little more than earlier.”
On a public Facebook post, he said “I feel crushed. I ask if it is worth it, when what has taken so long to restore can be destroyed by wilful negligence and greed in a few short minutes, before my eyes.”
Burrows said in the post that most of the damaged was caused by the lorry trying to get away.
Nick Burrows bought the property in 2016 with his now ex-wife, it includes ten acres of land and two tumbledown barns, parts of the building date back to the 13th century.
The pair appeared on BBC’s Home Restoration, showing their plans for how they would restore the Mill, before their divorce.
Coulton Mill publishes updates for the restoration on Facebook, gathering thousands of followers who tune into each post.
Burrows keeps the historic site active in the community, sharing designs for Coulton Mill T-shirts and is involved with many North Yorkshire Market events.
The investigation into the crash is still ongoing and the police have not released any statements.
