Lederhosen, Lowenbrau and laughs have been ordered at the House of Trembling Madness for the beginning of Oktoberfest.
They have two sites in York, both will be holding a month-long event in their Lendal pub to celebrate the longstanding tradition originating in Germany.
On Wednesday the 1st October the pub started Oktoberfest with a traditional keg tapping event giving away the first twenty pints away for free to get people into the spirit.
They used the original method of keg tapping, with a tap and mallet to pierce the wooden keg it took over twenty minutes, six members of staff and a river of beer flowing across the bar.
Despite the struggles it took a lot less time to get the pints out to the lucky few who had been waiting.
Although the main event started at 6pm everyone was able to buy classic beers from Munich such as; Hoffbrau, Spaten, Hacker-Pschorr but Lowenbrau seemed to be the best selling of the night.
These beers have limited availability, lasting until the end of October and also available in different sizes including the traditional Stein holding two pints in one glass
Continuing from the previous year, when you have bought six drinks and received a stamp for each on your loyalty card, you’ll get your next for free.
And for something different for Oktoberfest, they have introduced a new menu item; Ludwig’s wiener, a traditional German bratwurst topped with sauerkraut, crispy onions and authentic German sauces to help line your stomach before polishing off a few steins with friends or family.
With staff dressed in traditional clothing and smiles it’s hard not to feel willkommen as you walk in.
