Louise Prashad is preparing to run a marathon for Tommy’s baby charity, which is dedicated to child loss, due to her own experiences.
Louise, now 29, gave birth to stillborn twins, Mia and Leo, back in 2016. Tragically in 2020, she was expecting another set of twins but had to lose one of the babies. She has since completed over 100 marathons.
Louise, who lives in Easingwold, is now set to run in the London marathon on 23 of April.
The mum of two will be running for Tommy’s baby charity, which is a charity that funds research into miscarriages, stillbirths and premature births in order to save babies lives.
Louise made a post on her Facebook and said: “I want to run for all our babies gone too soon. I would like to run with as many personalised ribbons bearing the names of our angels to show the world we still speak their names and they are never forgotten.”
Ribbon Nation is the sponsor that will be supplying the ribbons for the marathon, which will be free, and they will contain the names of the children that have been lost to miscarriages, stillbirths and premature births.
So far, 374 ribbons have already been made. The blue ribbons will represent boys, pink will be for girls and yellow will be for those whose gender was too early to tell or for a miscarriage.
Back in 2016, Louise awoke to the loss of her babies to stillbirth and a new liver after receiving a liver transplant, despite having no prior medical issues.
This had all taken place at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which has since apologised for failings in care.
They said: “We would like to reiterate our sincere apologies to Mrs. Prashad. We truly regret that failings in the care provided during her pregnancy resulted in the stillbirth of her twins in April 2016.”
Now Louise has two children, Ava, five and Nico, two, with her husband, Max, 33.
Furthermore, Nico was a twin himself but Louise was not able to carry the both of them to full term, which was “another huge blow, but it was a situation where it was my life or his” said Louise.
Donations can be made to Tommy’s fundraiser and is targeting to reach £2000.
