Movember

With the start of a new month comes a new way to fundraise for various causes, the global phenomenon which has rose in popularity is back again. Movember!

The campaign which started in 2003 in Melbourne when two friends decided to bring back the moustache to raise funds for men’s mental health and prostate cancer has grown into a yearly custom for many men worldwide.

As time has gone on growing a mo isn’t the only way to help a bro, with other options like sponsored runs, walks and bike rides or even having a mo-ment which you invite friends and family to join in with the fundraising and have those conversations that need to be had.

Per year it is estimated that between 5,200 and 5,300 men take their own lives which is over 14 a day, A simple fundraiser for the charity or even a donation is used to fight these numbers and attempt to reduce this.

In 2024 285,000 people including celebrities signed up to help raise funds for this cause including Ugo Monye an ex-rugby union player and Joe Baggs known from gogglebox and his social media personality.

The official website for Movember said that the combined number of kilometres walked and ran could go around the whole earth 140 times including one person who walked barefoot across America.

This campaign has a different meaning to everyone who donates, participates or even thinks about this, hundreds of thousands of different stories, experiences and meanings bringing people together worldwide.

Even though the month has already started there is still time to get involved by donating or even sharing peoples’ fundraisers online.
