From Thursday the eighth of May to Friday the sixth of June, you can take part in a consultation that will help York City Council to inform the design of future improvements to many Park and Ride sites in York.
The sites that are being improved are: Poppleton Bar, Grimston Bar, Askham Bar, Rawcliffe Bar and Monks Cross. Five out of the six P&R sites across York.
The public can take part in an online survey, in which they are encouraged to voice their opinion on the planned improvements of the Park and Ride sites. The plan is for the improvements to attract new customers, and issue accessible facilities and better public transport options.
Specific improvements involve, offering overnight parking, better cycling parking, new waiting spaces, improves surveillance, and parking dedicated to larger vehicles.
The reason for the wanted improvements is because of the influx of customers since the pandemic. In 2024, four and a half million passengers used York’s Park and Ride sites. The highest number of customers using the P&D sites in five years.
York City council are offering this month long consultation because they truly value the publics opinion. Whether a York resident or not, their voice matters. It also gives the council their best chance to enhance the benefits of the P&D sites to the maximum.
Cllr Kate Ravilious, Executive Member for Transport at City of York Council, said:
‘York’s Park and Ride is already a huge success story, offering excellent services for York’s residents, commuters and visitors. This project will increase transport options for everyone, making the sites themselves more accessible, encouraging even greater use.’
