As Spring and the sunshine quickly approaching it highlights how few residents in York have their own gardens, with around a third of residents not having access to a green space.
The Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs estimates from new statistics that 30,910 of the 91,944 households in York do not have an accessible green space.
Although, for those who don’t have a garden to enjoy the sunshine in here are the best three green spaces to visit in York.
Dean’s Park
Dean’s Park is a small urban park located adjacent to York Minster on its northern side. Built in the 19th century it holds a rich history and situated in a picturesque location. The park is open to the public until 6pm and allows dogs and is perfect for people watching or spotting local wildlife.
A prime feature of the park is the expedition of Paddington Bear, the statue has become a well-loved tourist attraction in the area.
College Green
The newly renovated College Green has become extremely popular due to its location. The gardens are placed in a suntrap alongside independent cafes which have seating by the gardens.
Musicians often gather here which provides a beautiful atmosphere for a spring day. Located at the south-east side of the Minster, College Gardens are set against the historic backdrop which embodies the York community and history.
Museum Gardens
A botanic gardens oasis is set inside the Museum Gardens, there are many local businesses inside the park that provide, ice cream, coffee and lunch.
Situated by the River Ouse, and with 10 acres of green space for picnics or family sports activities. This park is a haven for fun in the spring, summer seasons.
Make it a whole family affair, and bring your dog. As dogs are allowed in the park under strict supervision.
