York City title win is ‘Enormous’ for the city

York City players and fans celebrating title parade at the Eye of York

History was created as York City scored a equaliser deep into stoppage time to claim the National League title and promotion to the Football League.

End of the season

York City went toe-to-toe with Rochdale in a frantic final day clash with the Minstermen returning to League 2 for the first time in 10 years.

Stuart Maynard’s team came out victorious despite drawing to the Greater Manchester side who missed out on title by two points after a nail-biting season.

After the match, City fans were looking forward to next season with high expectations.

Economy boost for the City

How will the city benefit from this promotion charge by York City Football Club?

There are lots of sponsorships and partnerships, from small independent stores to larger scale companies such as Enterprise or Hummel, which all work with the club to benefit both parties.

The centre of York will be boosted with a growth in footfall as larger crowds are expected from larger clubs such as Rotherham United, who were playing their football in the Championship only two seasons ago.

A local business woman, Anna Hartley, has said that it isn’t just the club that will benefit from their promotion to League Two.

Anna helps run the social media for three smaller pubs/bars in the centre of York, which she believes will have many more customers due to the higher attendances next season.

York City Title Parade

To emphasise the success of this season, York City owner Matt Uggla organised a title parade to bring the city even closer together.

There was a huge turnout from the community to show their support to the players and staff off York City and you can see some of the highlights here.
