Fraudster in Selby

Police have warned residents and businesses in the Selby area over a fraudster asking for cash and goods claiming he will bank transfer the money.

He has been targeting smaller businesses like hairdressers and takeaways, he says he will transfer money online and shows a screenshot of the money being sent however it never arrives.

A member of public was withdrawing cash when the suspect approached them asking for a taxi fare and attempted to show the screenshot of the money being transferred when the victim noticed it had not arrived in their bank account and refused to give any money over.

North Yorkshire police have issued a warning to stay vigilant, to not hand out any money to anybody who approaches them not matter how genuine they may seem and look out for vulnerable and older people who may be taken advantage of.

Police are urging those who may have been involved in this incident or others to report this, more information on the different types of fraud and how to report them are available on their website or by calling 101.
