Minster Ladies host Cheadle Town Stingers in the fight for survival

Minster Ladies will host Cheadle Town Stingers this weekend as they try to fight for league survival.

After their 14-0 dominant display against Guisborough Town in the County Cup at the weekend, the team will be hoping for a relaunch in their fight for survival.

York only played twice last month in the league, after their away trip to Wythenshawe was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

February was a difficult month for results in the Northern Division 1 for the Minster Ladies, as they suffered a loss to relegation rivals Doncaster Rovers Belles, as well as just picking up a point against fifth place Norton & Stockton Ancients.

The last time York won in the division was against Chester Le Street in January, where a second half goal from Katie Astle won them the game.

In the Guisborough match, there were seven different goal scorers for York, with Ruby Watt scoring a whopping five goals in just 51 minutes.

As well as Watt scoring five goals, fellow striker Katie Astle scored a hattrick, which brings her season’s goal total to 10 in all competition.

Manager Dan Jackson said after the match : “I’m pleased with the performance and for the team … There was some excellent football that led to the goals.”

In contrast to their league performance, York have set a new club record in the cup, gaining their sixth consecutive win in this tournament.

The semi-final will be taking place on the 15th of March, at home against Thornaby, which will be a rerun of the 2023/24 final, which saw York come out on top and win the cup.

York would be wanting to take this great form into the next league game, when they host sixth place Cheadle Town Stingers.

This match will be played on Sunday, which is International Women’s Day, at the Myrings Stadium in Knaresborough, at 2pm.
