July is set to be a significant month for York’s Museum Gardens. The Gardens will be hosting multiple events of 2 art forms in particular, music and comedy.

The Museum Gardens is located down Station road in the centre of York, just before the bridge that goes accross the River Ouse.

It’s within walking distance of Yorks train station, appealing for people who do not live in York that want to attend the events. It’s a perfectly busy area that is passed thousands of times a day by people entering and exiting York.

The events kickstart on July 3rd, English rock bad Elbow will be performing. Peak popularity in the 2000’s. Their big hits that you may know include Gentle Storm and One Day Like This.

Next on July 4th, 72 year old Nile Rodgers will perform solo, seperate from his former group Chic. A legend in the Disco music genre. His big hits include Good times and Everybody dance.

Also on July 4th, American soul singer Jalen Ngonda is set to perfrom as a ‘special guest’. Ngonda is making his mark on the soul scene thus far, releasing his first album in September 2023 – Come Around and Love Me.

Then July 5th sees English guitarist Richard Hawley perform, he is celebrating 20 years of his most successful album Coles Corner. Songs you may have heard from it are The Ocean and Coles Corner.

Finally July 6th moves it from music to comedy, Museum Gardens will host the York Comedy Festival. The headliner act will be Irish comedian Dara O Brien, and Canadian comic Katherine Ryan. Before the headliner, there are a selection of the UK’s most hysterical stand ups, upcoming and established.

2025 will be York Museum Gardens 2nd time hosting events such as these ones. In 2024, they sold out the allocation for their early July series, resulting in it returning back this July, and its likely to a step above last years.

It’s a great opportunity for tourists to see York at its finest, welcoming these grand musicians to the city. For students and residents of York, if you didnt get a chance last year, now is your chance to experience something fantastic in your city.
