York knights headed to Wembley for cup final

The York Knights are set to face Featherstone Rovers in AB Sundecks 1895 cup final at Wembley stadium on Saturday 7 June.

Following their 28-20 win against the Bradford Bulls at the LNER community stadium May 18th, York Knights will be representing the city in a repeat of the 2021 cup, where they were defeated by the Featherstone rovers.

York will be aiming to make history this year by winning the cup final for the first time, while Featherstone will attempt to be the first team to win twice.

The Knights were defeated in both the 2021 final and in the 1931 challenge cup final where the original York club lost to Halifax.

In 2021, the Knights were conquered by the Rovers in a 41-34 win also at Wembley.

Both teams secured their places in this year’s final with impressive semi finals wins, the Knights ahead by eight points, while the Rovers won by 26 points.

Fans flooded to social media to share their support, one user took to X to comment “Absolutely magnificent, so very pleased for York” (@DavidWe06688048).

Head coach for the Knights, Mark Applegarth, commented on the team’s recent win against Bradford, telling club media the team “turned a bit of pressure into points, which we knew we could”.

Ticket prices for the final range from £10 to £70 depending on their location in the stadium, with York supporters allocated seats in the East stand and Featherstone supporters in the West stand.

Tickets for York Knights can be booked here with standing or seated areas available to book.
