York Knights Face Sheffield Eagles in a Yorkshire Derby

York Knights are just a week away from their Yorkshire clash against Sheffield in the Betfred Championship at the LNER community Stadium.

Mark Applegarth’s side are looking for their fourth consecutive win in the league, which is part of a run of games involving eight win out of nine games.

Their most recent game on Sunday 18th May, York played Bradford Bulls in which they achieved a 28-20 win, in the AB Sundecks 1895 cup.

The recent league results leave York in 5th place, only two points behind league leaders Toulouse.

In Sheffield’s last six games they have won two, with their last game against the London Broncos ending in a 22-20 win to Sheffield.

The Eagles have had an up and down season this year, currently sat in 10th place with three wins and six losses.

Last season Sheffield finished in seventh place just missing out on the playoffs due to an inferior difference to Featherstone Rovers.

In York and Sheffield’s last meetings taking place in the 2024 season, there has been turbulent games ending 24-26 to York and 10-18 to Sheffield.

If York win this game and other results go their way, York should find themselves third, level with Bradford and above them based on having a bigger points scored difference.

York have to rely on Bradford and Barrow losing their games in hand, with Bradford Bulls playing Widnes on the 25th and Barrow playing Toulouse on the 24th.

If Sheffield beat York, they could find themselves in ninth place, going above Featherstone and an extra place away from relegation.
