Meet Archie Whitfield: The Local Lad Running To Every Premier League Stadium In Memory Of His Dad

In April Archie began his challenge, one that was to push himself to do 20 ultra marathons became a journey of remembrance for in Archie’s own words “An amazing Dad”.

Archie’s challenge was to run consecutively from each stadium in the Premier League from Newcastle’s St. James’ Park to end eventually at Arsenal’s Emirates, the ending location being the home of the team Archie supports.

A support passed down from his father, Dave who’s support and passion for the gunners was described by Archie as the man’s “greatest love”.

Dave’s death in December was due to Cushing’s disease and this is why Archie will be running his challenge to raise both awareness and donations for The Brain Charity.

On the charity’s website Archie wrote: “We were lucky enough to have a large community to rely on for practical and emotional support, Not all people are lucky to have this support system, and so I am raising money in his memory for The Brain Charity, who help so many families affected by conditions affecting the brain, like my Dad”.

Archie like many others his age played football growing up but unlike many others signed professional terms with York City in May 2020, During his football journey Archie played for York City, Ossett United, Bridlington Town and Perth Soccer Club over in Australia.

Archie who now lives in Manchester and works as a chef ran the 800 mile journey with the support of many from his hometown of Thirsk including friends and family but also a social media following on platforms such as his TikTok and Instagram.

Archie’s challenge ended on April 26th when he arrived at the Emirates stadium more likely than not absolutely exhausted, although despite all the running he did in the those 24 days he ran in the London marathon the day after his challenge ended.

But for those lucky enough to have met, known or even spoke to both Archie and his father Dave you would not be surprised by his commitment to honouring his dad’s memory and to helping others.

Archie’s challenge has managed to raise a massive £22,762 to date which is an incredible achievement.
