Yorkshire’s Harry Brooks Quits IPL … Again

Harry Brooks has dropped out of the Delhi Capital’s Indian Premier League squad for the second year running.

He could now face a two year suspension from the competition.

The 2025 IPL campaign kicks off on the 22 March.

The Capitals must now find a player of Brooks’ quality in such little time.

As a result, there is a lot speculation around the reason Brooks has pulled out of the IPL once again.

The Yorkeshire batter said in a social media post he needed to “recharge after the busiest period in my career to date” and to fully prepare for England’s busy schedule this summer and the winter Ashes.

This decision from Brooks comes with the possibility of serious consequences.

Moreover, It could prevent him playing in the IPL until 2027.

This comes at a time where Brooks is being considered as becoming captain for England’s white ball teams.

It comes after Jos Butler’s resignation following England’s early exit from the Champions Trophy on the 5th March.

Without him playing in the IPL it places him in a better position for captaincy.

England have a busy year of Test cricket coming up with five games at home to India this summer.

This is followed by an away Ashes tour from November as they look to win the urn.

Furthermore, it would mean England would win in Australia for the first time since 2010/11.

England return to action from May 22 for a four-day Test against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge,

This is followed by six white-ball games against West Indies which precede the start of the India test series from June 20.

Brook has played one season in the IPL to date,

Featuring for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023 he scored a 55-ball century against Kolkata Knight Riders

However, Brooks mustered just 190 runs in 11 matches overall in 2023

The Capitals bought Brooks for £590,000 in the 2024 auction,

As of now, Delhi Capitals have not announced a replacement for Brook in their squad. The team is scheduled to begin their IPL 2025 campaign on March 24 against Lucknow Super Giants.

According to the league’s regulations, players who withdraw after being signed could face a two-year ban from future IPL seasons and auctions.

However, no official statement has been made by the IPL or the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding any disciplinary actions against Brook.
