In honour of National ‘Get Caught Reading Month’, here’s five locations in York to sit and enjoy a good book in the sunshine.
Museum Gardens

In the Museum Gardens there is a place to sit for any type of reader, whether you want a bench in the sun, the shade or a place to put a blanket down and soak in the sun as well as a good story. These readers said they were enjoying Loyalty by Martina Cole and The Burning Shore by Wilbur Smith.
Ouse Riverside

If you follow the path down through the Museum Gardens you’ll make your way to the side of the River Ouse. With a line of peaceful benches where you can indulge in a book with the sound of boats passing by and a breeze to keep you cool.
Deans Park

To the North side of the York Minster you can find a quaint park. A popular location for solo readers, one reader said they were reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.
York Art Gallery

In full view of the lovely sunshine and on a bustling street, the open seating area outside York Art Gallery is the perfect place to people watch when taking breaks from your book.
Station Road

If you’re a commuter waiting for a train but wanting to enjoy the sunshine before your journey, running parallel with Station Road is a wide shaded path with rows of benches to sit back and cool down and get a few pages read.
Remember if you are going out to read in the sunshine, pack sun cream and a water bottle for a better experience.
