Countdown’s Susie Dent and bestselling author Sophie Hannah are in attendance for the second week of York’s Literature Festival as mystery novels take the lead.
Susie Dent, resident word expert on Channel 4’s Countdown, will be speaking on the 15th of March about her first mystery novel, Guilty by Definition, at The Citadel, Gillygate.

International bestselling writer Sophie Hannah, known for her work on her new Poirot novels, has two events this week on the 13th of March, both of which will be held at St. Peter’s School.
Sophie Hannah has written a series of five crime mystery novels based on Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot, which has sold millions worldwide.
The first of her events is an inspiring masterclass on how to be your best self and change limiting beliefs when it comes to being an author, this is her ‘How to Be a Happy and Successful Writer’ event.
Her second event will introduce her new novel, No One Would Do What The Lamberts Have Done, and she will give away early copies of this book through a competition at the talk.
A third mystery novel event is taking place on the 17th of March and is the launch of A Glittering Peril by Dr Angela Ranson.
This will be the latest instalment of her Catrin Surovell Tudor mystery series, and the event will include an interview held by Dr Louise Hampson of the University of York about the whole book series.
Other events this week include poetry readings, a children’s author talk, a York St John showcase, and more discussions with acclaimed and local authors.
