Dante Stakes and Big Evs confirmed for a return – declarations for York Racecourse on Thursday

York Racecourse home straight

Thursday of the meet sees three class ones take place at the Knavsemire including the Middleton fillies’ stakes, the Dante stakes and the Westow stakes. This sees the return of Free Wind, Ancient Wisdom and Breeder Cup Turf sprint winner Big Evs.

Free wind and Bluestocking return for another battle against each other in the Middleton fillies stakes as last year’s winner Free Wind bids for another group 2 win. As this narrowly heads the market at 15/8, many in behind will be looking to dethrone her. This will be the third time they have faced off against each other as last time Ralph Beckett’s filly got the better of her on Champions Day at Ascot but none of them were good enough to beat Poptronic on the day.

Elsewhere, with Charlie Appleby’s Sapphire Seas returning to England after losing out to stable mate English Rose in Meydan with William Buick on board and the Musidora stakes runner up last year, Infinte Cosmos looking to take on the top two in the market.

The field is to be completed by Caerfarnon and Novus who complete the six runner field which they all look to go to post over one mile and a quarter.

The Dante Stakes sees the returning Kameko Futurity winner Ancient Wisdom look to land another group success. He is to be ridden by stable jockey William Buick as the two reunite. Two in behind Ancient Wisdom that day in the form of Dancing Gemini and Diego Valazquez were subsequent 2nd and 4th in this year’s renewal of the French 2000 Guineas making the Kameko form even stronger.

God’s Window has been turned out quickly after a poor run at Chester last week in a listed race. Also being turned out quickly is Karl Burkes runner Caviar Heights who landed listed success very gamely last time winning by 4 lengths. Returning for his first run this season is Roger Varian’s Al Musmak who was last seen coming second in behind Ghostwriter. Roger Varian has enjoyed a very strong start to the season landing the 1000 Gunieas in England with Elmalka.

To round off the field we have Economics who won last time out, Cambridge jocked with Ryan Moore and War Rooms as an outsider to the field.

Big Evs, the Breeders Cup hero, returns to the field as a rightful evens favourite as he looks to get his season started with a listed win here at York. In behind him we can see Kylian who looks to reverse his form with Big Evs for the Archie Watson team accompanied by Hollie Doyle.

We also have our only course and distance winner in Mon Na Slieve return for Yorkshire based trainer Kevin Ryan who has beaten Kylian last year over course and distance as a 2yo. Sommelier who is ridden by Oisin Murphy takes to the turf for the first time as he has only been seen on tapeta.

The outsiders of the field consists of Unbreak My Heart, Dark Vintage and Sports Coach.

These three races look to make for great viewing on York Racecourses Premier Day and all pose chance for an upset for each field.
