A man is due in court today after being charged with murder of a Malton woman.

On Wednesday 24th of April a woman was pulled from the River Derwent in Malton at 11:40pm.

Both members of the public and the police helped pull her out of the river and gave CPR and first aid before being taken away by an ambulance where she was later pronounced dead.

Police have announced the woman’s identity as 49-year-old Lisa Welford from Malton.

A 47-year-old man was arrested and held in custody while enquiries continued and has now been charged for the murder.

North Yorkshire Police have said that the man was known to Lisa before the incident occurred.

Detective Chief Inspector Shaun Page has said: “Our thoughts are with Lisa’s family and friends at this very sad time,” adding: “if you have any information that could assist our investigation then please contact us.”
