Unmissable Light Show at York Art Gallery

York Art Gallery is illuminating York this February with a fabulous display of light and sound.

The light project, run by York Bid, started last year with projections made using 3D mapping on the minster, this year’s turns York Art Gallery inside out.

The show premiered earlier this month with the Lord Mayor of York in attendance.

The light projection which is completely free and ticketless is a must see for both residents and those visiting York between the 7th and 25th of February.

It’s being displayed at night from 6pm until 9pm, so make sure to bring a coat for the chilly evenings.

York Art Gallery is only a short walk from York train station so even those coming for a day trip can pop by before leaving York.

Director David McConnachie said it took “seven animators from around the country to help bring the project to life”.

The display in celebration of York’s UNESCO Media Arts Status emphasizes the beauty of grade 2 listed gallery building.

Aime Hall, York St John student visited the show on Friday night on the way out. She described it as ‘a beautiful display of the York’s love of art and architecture’

York Art Gallery has recently stopped free entry to the gallery so the light projection is a great way to see incredible art featured in the gallery without even stepping inside the building.
