The Great Yorkshire Show is hosted by The Yorkshire Agricultural Society and is the UK’s premier agricultural show. This is a major event and is marked on calendars every year for the farming and rural Yorkshire communities.

Visitors are expected to find the country’s best livestock, agricultural machinery, Motorbike stunt riding team, The Bolddog FMX Team on center stage, garden shows, hives and honey shows, and much more.

Ben Barnett, Press Officer for the Yorkshire Agricultural Society, says “there is a respectful pomp and circumstance around what the show looks like.”

21 sections of events will be included, such as 8500 animals from around the world competing for prizes, and the world’s largest combine harvester machine will also be in attendance.

The event is a showcase of farming, agricultural trends, and overall, a show to support farmers and the rural industry.

What to Expect at The Great Yorkshire Show

In the trade stands, visitors can expect a wide variety of goods, enjoyable for the whole family. Including farm fresh products, local traders, and clothing stands.

For the first time, a cheese competition will take place digitally. There are 160 competitive classes for cheese and dairy. This makes the event as inclusive as possible while also reaching a larger audience.

Competitors, who range from restaurants, food businesses, and anyone in the cheese community are encouraged to make a cheese board, plate, or grazing platter to showcase talent, but also show their creative skills. Although cheese is meant to be tasted, Barnett says the experience is cultivating “the art of cheese.”

The entries will be judged electronically before the event. Then the selected winner is invited to the show and will present their cheese creation to the audience.

To maintain the historical culture, native breeds, trade stands that support farmers, and a strong representation of agricultural heritage are encouraged and visibly seen throughout the event. This show specifically celebrates the agricultural community and the history of it as a whole.

The show is not just for visitors to admire livestock and indulge in farm fresh food, but this year, there is an agriculture innovation village that Barnett says, “particularly shines a spotlight on digital technological solutions to farming challenges.”

The Great Yorkshire Show gives farmers a voice and a place to share their stories, products and how food is properly grown and produced.

Supporting the Agricultural Community

To further promote farming and sustainability, the entire innovation zone will be primarily powered by hydrogen, which can be used in the future to fuel farming machinery. This practice can significantly reduce the cost of fuel but also reduce the use of fossil fuels.

The Yorkshire Agricultural Society not only hosts The Great Yorkshire Show, but they also provide classes on everything from farm administration to media training and even a European study trip to understand farming in different countries.

Barnett explains that “the buzz here is genuinely unique.”

Get your tickets soon, as the event caps at 35,000 visitors a day. Tickets will only be available online. You can get them here.
