Five Places To Watch The World Cup In York

Those not heading out to the World Cup this year will be asking where to watch the tournament in York. This summer’s football showcase is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico where matches will be played across 16 cities.

This is the first World Cup with 48 teams involved – compared to 32 in previous tournaments.

England will first take on Croatia (17th June 9pm BST), Ghana (23rd June 9pm BST) and Panama (27th June 10pm BST) in the group stages. The final takes place at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on the 19th of July.

The Yorkie checked out where to catch the matches this summer:

1. Spark York

Spark York is an outdoor community space which is home to the city’s independent food and drink retailers. Spark added a large screen last summer to watch the Women’s Euros and is expected do the same for this year when the men take to the pitch. For the tournament last year Spark said: ‘Expect big screen action, great vibes, some of York’s best food and drink, and a supportive, inclusive space for fans of all ages and genders.’

2. The Terrace Sports Bar and Kitchen

The Terrace is the only sports bar in York City centre and a great place to watch the games with more than 20 large screens to catch all the action. With a wide selection of beers, wines, spirits and home cooked food up for offer with deals on throughout the week, fans can expect a highly charged atmosphere.

3. The Old Bank York

The Old Bank has two large projector screens and more than 30 smaller screens so is a great spot to watch all the action. Recently renovated the Old bank has dart boards, pool tables and a beer garden. Due to expected popularity head to their website to book a table to you secure your seat.

4. Harkers

The Harkers Pub is a traditional pub with high ceilings and Historical features. It has a large range of ales and pub food, a great place to watch football surrounded by history. Make sure to book your seat so you don’t miss out on any of the action.

5. Golden Lion (York)

Located in the heart of the city centre, the Golden Lion is a hotspot for sports lovers. Head to the rooftop terrace at half time with a drink (or two) and cheer England on. If you don’t want to miss out, make sure to book a table to capture all the games.
