Noel Gallagher is receiving a major BRIT Award this month selected for the Songwriter of the Year Award.
The annual award recognises “exceptional songwriting talent” yearly.
The award comes hot on the heels of the Oasis Live 25’ Tour, which sold out stadiums globally.
The reunion sent multiple Oasis albums back to the top 5 in the charts with Time Flies hitting number one.
Oasis sold more than one million albums in 2025 alone, the only UK artist in 2025 to reach such numbers.
In York too, independent record shops reported a surge in Oasis vinyl sales following the Live 25’ Tour, reflecting the nationwide resurgence that has helped propel Gallagher toward this year’s Songwriter of the Year Award.
Ralph, 29, who works at Earworm Records said: “Everyone loves Oasis, it’s always going to be a best seller, but more people were buying vinyls as gifts to go with their Oasis tickets, or perhaps fell back in love with them after seeing them live and picked up a vinyl.”
Noel’s songwriting catalogue is having a resurgence, his work credited with shaping the UK’s last 30 years of music.
However, Gallagher’s legacy isn’t just Oasis, he is also the lead singer of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
The band has been active since 2010, and all four of their studio albums have hit number one in the charts upon release.
However, the general consensus across the UK is that High Flying Birds are incomparable to Oasis’s tunes.
Perhaps this is why Noel is receiving this award now.

The BRITS are being held in Manchester Co-op Arena this year, Gallagher’s home town and the inspiration for a lot of his tracks.
For fans in York, where Oasis tracks still dominate pub playlists and student nights, Gallagher’s recognition feels overdue; his songwriting has been part of the soundtrack of Northern life for decades.
Stacey Tang, BRITs committee chair, says Noel’s songs: “have soundtracked memories for multiple generations and defined the spirit of British music globally.”
Noel previously accused the BRITs of being “rigged” back in 2015, fans wonder if he has changed his mind since being selected for the award.
