After North Yorkshire police have partnered with Immigration enforcement to help keep York safe and welcoming by offering support to those begging or sleeping rough, many people have taken themselves online to say their opinions on the matter.
One main cause for the police focusing on this issue is due to in just the first seven months of this year alone there were 573 reports of anti-social behaviour, violence and safety concerns within York.
To tackle these issues the police have had proposed powers within the centre like: people causing antisocial behaviour can be asked to leave the centre for 24 hours, groups of three or more people could be removed, begging, loitering likely to cause annoyance, distress, harassment or alarm could be banned.
However, this issue is not just concerned with residents and tourists it also highly effects businesses and business owners as it can cause people to avoid the shops if they do see this happening around the shop or in a close vicinity to the shop.
There has been a lot of other measure put in place to help those in these unfortunate conditions like the building of more social and council housing
Many residents of the area have been thankful to the force with one person replying to say “good job”
