The annual Britain’s Strongest Women competition will come to York Barbican with Rebecca Roberts competing to get her title back.
Roberts has been crowned World’s Strongest Women three times as well as Wales and UK national champion.
In the event competitor’s face a log dead lift, overhead presses and squats, They also perform dynamic events where they have to move a vehicle the furthest.
Roberts actually holds the world record in three of the events: The Log lift, Atlas stones – moving multiple boulders onto platforms – and dumbbell press.
Growing up in Bangor, North Wales life showed it’s ugly side to Roberts early on after the saddening death of her mother. She told to the Guardian about the experience: “It was hard. I had to take over the role of mother to my family.
It wasn’t until she walked into a gym to meet Paul Savage that she found her passion.
Mr Savage saw potential in her and said “she would, without doubt, be the strongest woman in the world within five years.”
Five Years later, the prediction turned out to be true as she would stand on the podium as the official World’s Strongest Women.
However despite her incredible feats she has only been able to capture Britain’s title once with two close second finishes.
So for the 2025 campaign she has her work cut out for her as the impressive Lucy Underdown who beat her last year by a sizable margin looks to retain her championship and the favourite.
Coming off the back of her third win in the WSW, Roberts has had her retribution on the world stage and will be more determine than ever to get her elusive 2nd victory.
Britain’s Strongest Women will be at York Barbican on 19th July.
