Yorkshire Gymnast Takes on British Championships

With the British championships being the first major competition to start looking at Olympic qualification, it is the first chance for Yorkshire’s own Harry Hepworth to qualify again after the Paris Olympics.

Harrogate born Harry Hepworth started his year of competitions with multiple top two finishes, alongside his Paris teammate Jake Jarman.

Hepworth, who trains with Leeds Gymnastics centre, is well known for his skill on floor, bars, and vault, but did not place across the board.

At the British Championships hosted in Liverpool, Hepworth finished fifth on floor with a score of 13.100, losing out to fellow Leeds gymnastics athletes.

He finished second on bars with an impressive score of 14.300, an apparatus that he has continuously demonstrated to be his strength.

And finally with a score of 14.500 he placed second on vault, once again finishing behind his fellow Olympiad Jake Jarman.

Hepworth took to Instagram to congratulate the team, stating simply “Fun weekend at the British Championships, think its fair to say team Leeds smashed it!”

With a successful start to the competition Hepworth now has his sights set on the future, including qualifying for the next Olympics.

Hepworth is set to compete in the European Championships taking place in Leipzig, Germany the weekend of May 26-31.

He is also looking further ahead to October 19-25, 2025, where he is set to compete in the FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The upcoming World Championships and European championships will be vital for Hepworth who hopes to compete at the 2028 Olympic Games.

Competitors for Team Great Britain are expected to be selected at the end of the 2025 season, leaving the last two competitions indispensable for Hepworth and his Leeds Gymnastics teammates.
