York Theatre Royal – one of many to receive grant for much needed urgent support

The Arts Council England has announced an investment of £257 million in 1,385 venues across the UK.

York Theatre Royal is one of the 1,385 venues that has received support from the Culture Recovery Fund (CRF). They have been awarded £236,552 of the fund which they say, will enable them to “look ahead to a future” where they can continue to “be #HereForCulture and champion the creative life” for their glorious city.

Executive Director Tom Bird said: “We are delighted that our application has been successful. The Cultural Recovery Fund gives much needed financial support to enable us to continue to work behind the scenes and plan for a sustainable reopening. This is great news for our whole community and we are looking forward to welcoming everyone back into the theatre as soon as we are able”.

The theatre is urging supporters to #PledgeAhead by buying tickets now for when they are allowed to reopen.

Other cultural organisations that have been awarded funds from the £257 million grant include, The Cavern Club, London Symphony Orchestra, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and many more.
