Summer signings: Here’s our predictions

From fairytales to heartbreak, it’s been a memorable year for our Yorkshire sides. With Sheffield United reaching the Premier League, to Leeds falling out of the playoffs after being table-toppers for so long. It’s going to be an interesting Summer when it comes to transfers.

Here’s what we think these clubs need to do in order to thrive next season.

With Jonas Lössl, Erik Durm, Danny Williams, Jack Payne, and Laurent Depoitre all being released by the club, Huddersfield will need to bring in personnel if they will aim to bounce back into the Premier League.

It’s no secret that the Championship is one of the hardest leagues to escape from, with the quality amongst the league growing more and more each season.

Bakary Sako – The Crystal Palace winger will be out of contract in the Summer and has proven himself in the Championship during his time at Wolves. The winger is full of pace, power, and trickery and will no doubt be a nightmare for any full back in the Championship.

Carl Jenkinson – Another player that will be sure to thrive in the Championship. His career at Arsenal didn’t go to plan, but he will definitely bring his experience playing with top players into the dressing room.

Neal Maupay – A striker that proved to everyone that he can compete in the Championship and played a crucial part in Leeds’ automatic promotion dream coming to an end. The 22-year-old will be a target for many clubs over the Summer.

Sheffield United

Chris Wilder has done incredible for United on such a small budget, he will look to continue that form as the Blades enter the Premier League.

After seeing how Fulham embarked in the transfer window following promotion, Wilder will want to make sure they don’t have a similar situation and make sure that the players who earned promotion are given the opportunity to prove themselves amongst the big boys.

Gary Cahill – an experienced center-back who will bring knowledge and calmness into the dressing room. With a Premier League medal to his name, who is also coming to the end of his career he will no doubt be a great signing for the Blades.

Leighton Baines – another experienced defender who is coming towards the end of his career. He will for sure bring a cool head into the stressful times that Sheffield United will encounter during the season.

Leeds United

Another season that has ended in heartbreak for Leeds as their hopes of being promoted came to an end after being beaten in the playoffs by Derby County.

Marcelo Bielsa will need to invest into the squad as they’ve had a lack of experience to bring off the bench when times have been tough this season.

Bradley Dack – a very creative midfielder who is full of goals and assists. He’s the kind of player that can take the game by the scruff of the neck and turn draws into wins. There is no doubt there will be a huge amount of interest regarding Bradley Dack over the Summer.

Joe Lolley – with 11 goals and assists to his name, Lolley became an influential player for Nottingham Forest, a very versatile player with a lot of ability could be the missing piece to Leeds success.

York City

An average season for York after finishing mid-table. A lot of work will need to be done if they are going to rebuild the club’s status as they lacked goals this season which proved to be a key factor throughout the season.

Josh Hancock – a vital player for Altrincham this season scoring 19 goals this season, with a goal every 161 minutes of being on the pitch. With York ending the season on -5 goal difference, Hancock could be the man to sort that problem out for York.

Reece Styche – having scored 16 goals for Darlington this season just shows how gifted Styche is. As Darlington finished 17th in the National League North, there’s no doubt that without his goals they would’ve been fighting to survival, again, another player who could fix York’s goalscoring problem.
