Dante Festival marks the return of the York’s Race Season

York’s unmissable race season has returned for the summer as the Dante Festival gets underway.

The event consisted of three days of racing with tomorrow being the final day. The first race will commence at 1:50pm and is anticipated to be the busiest day, so if you’re planning on going make sure to get there early.

The next racing event will be the First Saturday Meeting on May 25th, followed by the first June meeting on 14th-15th June.

Tomorrow is the Matchbook Yorkshire Cup where racegoers will enjoy seven mixed distance races. Dante Festival racegoers have been very spoilt this week with the weather as the sun has made an appearance every day so far.  However, unfortunately for tomorrow’s visitors the sun is expected to go back into hibernation.

Paul Whiting, Head of Visit York, said: ‘The York races are a ‘must-see’ for visitors to the city providing a real Only In York experience, something that we are celebrating this year with a special campaign showcasing all that’s unique in the city.’

What better way to spend summer than being with your friends, dressed to impress at a fabulous venue with Pimms on tap?

With 2018 marking the ninth year that York racecourse has won the award ‘Best Racecourse in Britain 2018’ voted for by the members of the Racegoers Club, the largest organisation of its type in British Racing, this years events are anticipated to be better than ever.

It’s no surprise that these very glamorous events bring a lot of attention and tourism to the beautiful city of York.

Whiting: ‘It is estimated that the horse racing season brings in over £60 million to the city, this will benefit many other businesses in the tourism industry and beyond, as well as attracting new visitors every year, who will want to return to explore everything else the city has to offer.’

Race events are occurring all through summer so if you can’t make the Dante festival don’t worry! There are many more opportunities to experience these action-packed days and there truly is an event for everyone. The following are just a few of the spectacular races that are happening this season:

Summer Music Saturday: 29th June

Music Showcase Weekend: 26th – 27th July

Welcome to Yorkshire Ebor festival: 21st-24th August.

This is when the infamous most glamorous day of the races occurs, one of the most popular events; Ladies Day which is on the 22nd August. If you’re thinking of going to an event this year I can’t recommend this event enough out of them all. A fabulous day of racing, exquisite outfits as it’s the most focused day on fashion with awards for best dressed lady, man and child. This particular event is guaranteed to make your summer.

Family Race Day: 8th September.
