It’s always a struggle finding new music and local gigs in your area. So here’s a list of bands that I have found for you to listen and love.
Formed in 2017, Silvertones are an Indie band with influences from The Cribs, The Strokes, and Oasis. They label their sound as aggressive indie rock. Their debut single “I’m Everything” is out on Spotify, Soundcloud, and iTunes. Their next headlining gig will be the 3rd June at The Fulford Arms in York.
Formed in 2016, The Receivers are influenced by Weezer, The Cribs, and The Cure, and have a 60’s and 90’s sound. The Receivers made the final of Northern Exposure’s INMusic Festival competition, beating over 400 UK acts to the final six. One of their tracks “Leave The Right Marks” featured on BBC Radio 6 Music with Steve Lamacq. They will be playing their next gig on 5th July at the Victoria Vaults.
A project that started in late 2017, the band joined initially by their love of The Smiths. In February The Shamble recorded their debut EP ‘Heart On Our Sleeves.’ The title links to a poem written by lyricist and frontman, James Hinchliffe as a reflection to what the band is about. The sound having influences of The 1975, Alt-J and Guns & Roses, was premiered at the Fulford Arms earlier this year.
York natives, Violet Contours started playing together in 2015. Their music takes influence from bands such as Foals, Stone Roses and Bombay Bicycle Club. A year on from their debut single ‘Electric Bodies’ , they were nominated for the Yorkshire gig guides outstanding emerging artist award in 2018. This year is set to be packed full of gigs and new music for the band, with a new single on the way.
Formed in early 2018, The Vedettes are a new band on the scene. As an indie/alternative rock band, their sound takes influence from the likes of The Amazons, Circa Waves, JAWS, and Peace. Soon after this release of their debut single ‘Silver,’ the band received national recognition from BBC Radio 5’s Laura Whitmore. The Vedettes are currently recording a third single that is set to be released in the summer. They’re new EP now in the works to follow suit.
