York art gallery is set to host an exhibition which explores themes of migration, nationality, and displaced peoples.
The exhibition, titled The Sea Is The Limit, will run from May 4th to September 2nd, and will feature the work of 11 artists focusing on a variety of nationalities, from Tunisia and Iraq, to the USSR, Dagestan, and Ireland.
The artists will use their work to question the meaning of nationalism and identity, drawing on historical and contemporary narratives, according to the art gallery’s website.
Vavara Shavrova, the exhibition’s curator, praised the artists involved for their sensitivity and empathy regarding the issue of migration.
“Another strength of the show lies in the fact that most participating artists, including myself, are migrants,” she added.
