New mobile phone monitoring system will ease York traffic congestion

York City Council will trial a new system for reducing local traffic congestion by monitoring mobile phone data.

The council will use drivers’ mobile phone signals to keep track of congestion and ease traffic jams in the city in what has been titled the ‘Eboracum Scheme’.

We spoke to Peter Dew, York’s Executive Member for Transport and Planning, to find out more about the upcoming project. He explained that the project is a  “government funded scheme to gather real time information of traffic movements.”
