Leeds indie band English Teacher were nominated for Best New Artist in the 2025 BRIT Awards, alongside The Last Dinner Party, Ezra Collective, Miles Smith, and Rachel Chinouriri.

Having formed whilst studying at the Leeds Conservatoire in 2020, the band relished their debut at the UK’s leading music award ceremony.

Competitors The Last Dinner Party won the title for ‘Best New Artist’ however talking to NME, English Teacher’s guitarist Lewis Whiting described the experience as “overwhelming but brill”, with the band still recovering from their Mercury Prize win for their album This Could Be Texas in September 2024.

When asked what can we expect from you going forward, vocalist Lily Fontaine and bassist Nicholas Eden said “jokes, songs and rock and roll”, showcasing that “northern charm” critic Kieran Macadie refers to in his 9/10 review of This Could Be Texas.

Taking to their Instagram, English Teacher captioned a photo from the event: ‘thank you @brits x’ and have since advertised their upcoming tour dates in the UK.

The band announced their 2025 tour last autumn and are now touring across 5 countries with 24 upcoming concerts in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Spain, and the US.

Amid their UK stretch, the band will play as special guests for critically acclaimed Irish post-punk band, Fontaines DC on the 13th of July at Exhibition Park, Newcastle with Fontaines DC winning International Group of The Year at this year’s BRIT Awards, a title the band have claimed three times in the last five years.

Tickets for all concerts can be accessed via the bands website but there is currently limited availability for popular venues in Manchester, Newcastle and London.
